PUMPQUAKES was formed by a group of independent individuals based in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, and includes Lieko Shiga (photographer), Chinatsu Shimizu (independent curator), Yoshitomo Nagasaki (future owner of rock cafe PETER PAN, tacos lover, and film technician), Takahiro Sato (sound, visual, and film artist), and Sotaro Kikuchi (artist and architect). These individuals occasionally work collectively in the genres of artistic creation, publication, and curation and seek to continue learning and expressing their ideas.

The name PUMPQUAKES is made up of the two words, PUMP and QUAKES. All of us who are members of PUMPQUAKES were affected by the 3.11 earthquake, and we hope to bring our individual works together, to produce a creative communication and to transform the works so they give off new vibrations.
